7th May LL : Home v Henleaze ‘C’ (Won) – 6 pts

More than 8 women available to play league has not been the norm at Redland for many years, but that was the situation we were in this week, having selected the squad we formed a committee to determine the rinks. Always nice to have the first week at home.

Henleaze “C” arrived with a couple of surprises in their team,  one of their Skips had skipped every match- bar one, in the A team last year, and one of them had played every week – bar two in the B team last year.

Wendy, with Lin, Karen and Nina took control of the jack after the first end and were in charge of the game all the way through finishing 25-8.

Gill, with Sue, Colette and Liz were 6 all at the 8th end , but the Henleaze team got into their stride and despite picking up a 4 on the penultimate end, lost 12-17 .

Away next Friday at Yate , the first game of this season for them.

6th May BE 2 Rink : Away @ K&H (Won 45-26)

The final total shot difference didn’t tell the story of the game, which we appeared to make very hard work of winning.

On Jim’s rink with Will,Trevor and Nigel a slow start led to a 2 – 10 deficit at 6 ends, but a flurry of 13 shots over the next 4 ends led to Jim’s crew pulling in front

Kingswood and Hanham came back slightly, but with our boys winning the last 5 ends we finished 23-16

On Josh’s rink with Larry, Mike and Kev it was a different story early on with us taking a 10 nil lead at 5 ends, but then losing the next 7 out of 8 ends to be just in front

At 14 ends we were just 2 shots ahead on the overall game but this was an example of a game ” flipping over” with Josh’s rink picking up 2 consecutive 3s and Jim’s a one and then 2 ,we were 11 up and winning then became that much easier

Well done

Next round away to Avonvale ( to be played by Sunday 2nd June – Avonvale to offer dates)

1st May B&D : Home v Olveston (Lost 36-53) – 2pts

Shortened reports due to our esteemed editor being away on his travels.

Having Olveston as the first game of season is not the best fixture you would like to begin with but after the successes of last year perhaps we could have hoped for more?

On Josh’s rink with Mark, Mike and Kev started well but then slipped away and never managed to get back into the game ending 11-20

On RKJ’s rink with Trevor, Keith and Calvin it was a similar story, with the rink never seeming to get into it and ended 6-21

On Larry’s rink with Nick, Nigel and Will it was a different story, going 10-2 up after 5 ends and continuing to hold the advantage to win 19-12

Away to (Bath )Weston next Thursday
