Match Reports: B&D League 1: July 16th Home Olveston Ospreys

These days you never know who will turn up to play in the various Olveston teams but they put out a strong team against us on a sunny summer evening at Redland Green.

On Jim’s rink with Andy, Nigel and Keith with Andy having a great game (I know I am writing this but I did!) the rest of the team also played some great bowls with Jim saying after the game that he didn’t really have a lot to do when he bowled. But as the saying goes (I think from Kevin French), the lead and second decide if a rink is going to win and the three and skip decide by how much. On the evening this rink ran out 24-6. 👏

On Josh’s rink with Calvin, Roger and Will they were always behind and despite winning 9 of the 17 ends ran out 12-15 having dropped a 5 on end 7 😢

So on the night all eyes turned to Mark Powell’s rink with Charlie, Jon and Larry. Picking up a 3 on end 16 brought this match level at 14-14 so all to play for. After some great bowling on the last end and the shot changing hands, Mark bowled his last wood, which was a great wood, drawing the shot! Mark of course celebrated and turned round to shake his opponent’s hand who pointed out that he still had a bowl to bowl……

Unfortunately/fortunately this last bowl was wide and Redland picked up another 2 points on the night 👍

Although it is difficult to tell with the various delayed games, the League Division 1 table is all very close and there is certainly all to play for in the rest of the season 🏆

With the Men’s Triples competition on Saturday good luck to all competing.

Next week away to GBBs – always a good challenge.
