Topping off a remarkable season our very own Mr Andrew Gadd did the “double” in both the singles disciplines (he can’t do the treble as the other event is the women’s singles – but I understand Andy is working on it!) 🙂
2 woods:
In very wet, trying conditions the day got off to a dodgy start with Andy going 10-1 down against Olveston’s Chris Blake (an ex Redland protege – we seem to train them well at our place).
But as the weather worsened this seemed to favour Andy who dug in and willed on by Redland support around the green slowly turned the tide to eventually prevail 16-13 on the 20th end.
PS thanks to Calvin for stepping in to mark this game.
Onto the blue ribband Singles Final:
With the “Redland support” having disappeared down the pub for lunch and light refreshments, we came back to slightly better weather conditions but more importantly with Andy in a commanding lead 16-6 and it was just a question of finishing off the game with some excellent bowling to win 21-6.
I would suggest that it’s rare, possibly not done before, to win both the City & County singles competitions plus the North East singles title. This together with Andy, Jim and Josh reaching Leamington in various competitions and with Redland in the semi final of the Gloucestershire two rink on Sunday I think that Redland Green can feel very proud of its members and its achievements so far this year.
Editors Note: Kevin did not mention above the magnificent achievement of him and Calvin leading the club to the City & County Division 2 Title and taking us back to Division 1. As Kevin has said some great bowling this season and everyone should be very proud of our successes.
