7th Aug NE : Home v St Anne’s Park (Lost 29-54) – 2pts

These 2 points, against the top side in the league, could prove to be crucial in a few weeks time, but it was a tough evening.

On Nick’s rink, with Nina, Bob and Dave S, we were down very quickly and, despite some encouraging ends from us, that was the pattern throughout the match. A two on the last did bring us into double figures, but the final score was 10-19.

On Rick’s rink, with Marek, Mike W and Wendy, we were up against an extremely strong four. After a momentary glimmer of hope, leading 2-1 after two, we struggled to get any sort of hold in the match and, although we didn’t concede any “big” ends, St Anne’s built up a very steady lead, eventually winning 23-4.

On Vince’s rink, with Phil, Pete and Ian, we went into a strong early lead, 8-1 after six. After that it started to become quite tight, 8-7 after 9, 12-10 after 12, and 13-12 after 15! But we held our collective nerve and pinched the last two ends to secure a valuable 15-12 win.

It is still very close in the bottom half of the table with just 5 points separating us in 6th and GBB in 9th, but, with our last games against the bottom 3, our fate is very much in our own hands.
